The Community Fridges are mainly funded in the following ways:
- Donations from members of the public and local businesses
- Grants
- Horsham District Community Lottery
We work with our local councils and community groups to seek out sources of funding. For example, we have been fortunate to be included in the Co-op Local Community Fund, and to have received grants from Hubbub and Horsham District Council.
The funds go towards running the Community Fridges. We try to keep costs as low as possible but like all organisations, we have expenses including electricity for the fridges and freezers and insurance.
Thanking our community partners

We can only do what we do because of the generosity of local shops and supermarkets. The shops give up their own time to sort and put aside short-dated or past-dated food, and then make it available to us using nationally-recognised apps to ensure food only goes to registered organisations.
The supermarkets we work with include Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Budgens, Marks & Spencer, Lidl and Co-op. We also sometimes collect from bakeries, farm shops, local restaurants and food outlets.
We’re truly grateful to be able to partner with local suppliers who care as much about reducing food waste as we do! Thank you to all the frontline shop workers, team leaders, store managers and behind-the-scenes colleagues who make it possible for us to collect and distribute surplus food. Thank you!
